Visual Dialogues
The Creative Consultants (our team of young people) have chosen two contemporary photographs from Tate Britain to hang with the artworks in our Victorian galleries, creating a visual dialogue between old and new.
Ori Gerscht: Pomegranate
In this video, a pomegranate stands out from a backdrop reminiscent of a sixteenth century still life until it is exploded by a high-velocity bullet.
Goals Jo Roberts
Inspired by Celia Fiennes (1662–1741) who journeyed through England on horseback and came to Manchester in 1688, Jo Roberts will be a contemporary reporter coming to the city. She will take as her subject Manchester’s two football clubs, revealing the quirky through drawing and writing, reflecting and observing.
Art Treasures in Manchester: 150 years on
This exhibition marks the 150th anniversary of Art Treasures of the United Kingdom, the largest ever art exhibition in the UK, held here in Manchester in 1857.
Being Here: Photography by Eight Groups in Manchester
This exhibition is the result of a photographic project commissioned by Look 07 working with eight groups and twelve artists. Each group presents what is distinctive about their experience of Manchester and has worked with photographic techniques from polaroids and pinhole cameras to digital media.
