Join Nirvana Romell for the latest instalment of this art history talks series.
These monthly lectures will explain the basic principles of what is and isn't considered to be 'modern' art, as well as the historical development and eventual demise of the movement, from the 1870s to the 1960s.
We'll be focussing on painting and all the 'isms', including impressionism, cubism and expressionism and looking at works from the gallery.
'Modern art' is an ambiguous term, often confused with 'contemporary art'. As a movement, modernism started with impressionism in the 19th century and faded away in the 1960s, overwhelmed by 'performance', 'conceptual' and 'post-modern' art.
Each lecture will last from 2-3.30pm.
Refreshments will be available.
