Writing poetry inspired by visual art: a two day course

A two day course for aspiring poets with Linda Chase. Use the gallery as a starting point for inspiration in our relaxed course for adults.

What is the course?
In this two day workshop, you'll be encouraged to use the Modern and Contemporary galleries at Manchester Art Gallery as new sources of inspiration for poetry writing. You'll also be given guidance for developing your own writing. The weekend includes time for looking at art works and writing poems. During the workshops you'll also be asked to work in pairs and share your writing with the group.

Each day there will be 2 x 2 hour sessions, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
You need to attend all sessions.

Who is teaching the course?
Linda Chase grew up on Long Island in commuting distance of New York City. She has been a stage costume designer, a Tai Chi teacher and, more recently a tutor of poetry and creative writing. Her first collection, These Goodbyes, was published by Fatchance Press in 1995. Her two Carcanet Press titles are The Wedding Spy, 2001 and Extended Family, 2006.
Linda is a part-time lecturer on the MA course in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University and the Programme Coordinator and a tutor for the Poetry School Manchester. In 2004 she started a performance series, Poets and Players, which showcases new writers and musicians. You can find out more about Linda at www.lindachase.co.uk

Who is it for?
The course is designed for people with some experience of writing poetry.

What do I need to bring?
Nothing! All the materials will be provided.

What about lunch?
There will be a one hour lunch break. Lunch will not be provided, however there will be hot drinks available. You can bring your own lunch and eat it in our education studios. Or you can try our delicious cafe! There are other places to eat in the nearby area.

What if I find out I can’t come?
Places are limited and there may be people who are on a waiting for a place. If you can’t come for any reason please notify the gallery as soon as possible. We may be able to refund your money, if the cancellation is made a week before.
