Lachasse for the Cotton Board, 1953

This remarkable exhibition showcases elegant tailoring and gorgeous evening wear made from cotton in the 1950s. At that time, cotton was thought of as an everyday fabric, suitable for summer frocks or children’s clothes, not for formal or stylish outfits. The Cotton Board set out to change this by commissioning top fashion designers to create ball gowns, cocktail dresses and suits, all in a striking range of different cottons.
