Short course: Printed books

A practical two-day introductory course on printing and book-making, led by Daksha Patel.

For adults of all abilities, no experience necessary.

What is the course?
The course is an introduction to making a hand made book inspired by objects from the Gallery of Craft and Design. You will explore colour, shape and pattern through a series of drawings, collages and prints. Artist Daksha Patel will demonstrate printing techniques and guide you through the process of making a book. By the end of the course you will have created a unique book illustrated with drawings, collages and prints inspired by objects from the collection.

Who is teaching the course?
Daksha Patel is an artist living and working in Manchester. She has exhibited her prints and photography in the North West and teaches in galleries and schools.

Who is it for?
The course is designed for all levels of ability and particularly aimed at beginners. If you have always wanted to make your own books this course is an ideal opportunity to produce a simple book illustrated with your artwork in two days.

What do I need to bring?
Nothing! All the materials will be provided.

What about lunch?
There will be a one hour lunch break. Lunch will not be provided, however there will be hot drinks available. You can bring your own lunch and eat it in our education studios. Or you can try our delicious café! There are other places to eat in the nearby area.

What if I find out I can’t come?
Places are limited and there may be people who are on a waiting for a place. If you can’t come for any reason please notify the gallery as soon as possible. We may be able to refund your money, if the cancellation is made a week before.
