Thursday Lates: Walk the Line

Thursday Lates
Thursday Lates
Thursday 25 April 2013
5.30pm - 9.00pm

A free evening of talks, print making and knitting.

Do you go with the flow or stride out in your own direction?
Are you constantly thinking about what to do next or do you live in the moment?

Take a closer look at some of our more radical paintings, consider how our clothes can be a protective wrapping for our inner selves and take care of yourself by making some soulful art of your own.

Join in with our popular Art Bites chatting tour with Connie Witham. A chance for you to chat about fashion including the Mariano Fortuny Delphos dress (1908-12) and the 1892 Teagown of silk, wool, and velvet with satin bows and pearl buttons both on display in our 19th century gallery. Meet in the atrium on the ground floor.

Listen to artist Sarah Marsh talk about the knitted installation the Gallery of Costume that has documented a group of artists coming together to take knitting in a radical new direction. Knitted Elegance can be seen at Platt Hall until Sunday 2 June 2013. This talk takes place in the inspiring surroundings of our Radical Figures exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery.

Bring your own yarn and knit as you listen or pick up some of our needles and try some experimental knitting with unusual materials like string or bin bags.

Drop by and have a go at making a card print etching or a monoprint with artist Adam Quinn in the atrium. You can decide whether to wear your heart on your sleeve and share your inner most thoughts, or document your actual sleeves in a print showing your most comforting outfit.

Drop in anytime until 9pm to knit, print, mooch around, people watch or have a green tea. (other drinks are available!)

5.30pm Art Bites – chat about fashion with Connie Witham. Meet in the atrium on the ground floor.

6-8.30pm Card print and mono printing drop in workshop with Adam Quinn. Grab yourself a drink from the cafe and head to the atrium to join in with this.

7-8pm Sarah Marsh talks about the We Sit, We Knit, We Unwind project. Great if you're interested in health and wellbeing, making art to make yourself feel good and artists who enjoy collaborative practice. Head up the historic staircase, turn right and follow the music to the Radical Figures gallery.

8-9pm Experimental knitting string, wire and plastic bin bags. Follows the talk in the Radical Figures gallery.
