Join us for this series of lectures on surrealism by experts from across the UK.
With Dr Alyce Mahon, Senior Lecturer in History C20th Art, University of Cambridge
In this lecture Dr Alyce Mahon will explore the role of erotic desire in Surrealism and women Surrealists’ provocative use of the sexual body to radically awaken the viewer to new social and political (national and gender) politics. Addressing a range of women Surrealists, including Meret Oppenheim, Leonor Fini, Frida Kahlo and Mimi Parent, Mahon will consider how these women both offered an alternative to dominant modes of Surrealist masculinity and paved the way for later, post 1960s, generations of feminist artists.
