Join us for this series of lectures on surrealism by experts from across the UK.
With Dr Patricia Allmer, MIRIAD, Manchester Metropolitan University
In this lecture, Angels of Anarchy curator Dr Patricia Allmer will discuss how some women surrealist artists explore, challenge and rework conventional artistic traditions. By doing so, these artists demonstrate and reveal how art history contributes to constructing and maintaining power relations between men and women.
The talk will give further insight into a number of artists and artworks represented in Angels of Anarchy, including Meret Oppenheim’s objects, Lee Miller’s photographs of desert-scapes and Mimi Parent’s strange and unsettling assemblages in boxes.
Free but places are limited. To book
