Adult programmes and events

We have a regular programme of events for adults designed to spark your curiosity and imagination through talking, making and debating. Most of the programme is free.

Highlights tours

A tour takes place in a gallery

Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 2.00 – 3.00pm, free drop in.

Three times a week a trained guide from the Friends of Manchester Art Galleries leads an introductory tour around the gallery. Each guide has their own style and personal favourites, so it’s a different tour every time.

Take Notice: de-stress with art

Dante Gabriel Rossetti, The Bower Meadow.

First Tuesday of every month
12:15pm, 1pm
Free, no need to book, just turn up
Take Notice is a 30 minute free, lunchtime session where visitors are guided in looking at and engaging with artworks using mindfulness-based techniques. Recent studies have shown that practising Mindfulness can reduce stress, improve our brain’s ability to process information and lift our mood. No previous experience required. Come along and have a go.

Lunchtime Art Bites

Highlights tour

Art bites - every Wednesday, 12.30pm - 1pm, no need to book

Say what you see and chat with other visitors and our friendly Art Bites volunteers team. You don't need to know anything about art to join in with this informal chat based on the things we can see in the gallery. We look at two art works each week and talk about our responses to them. Looking at art is a great way to unwind, take a break in the middle of a busy day and think about things we don't always get time to.

English corner

Free English conversation class. Practice speaking English with others whilst enjoying two of our artworks on display. Our English tutor will lead you in activities that help practice speaking and listening skills. It's free, no need to book, just meet at Information.

Every  second Wednesday of every month, 1pm - 2.30pm and every third Thursday of the month 6.30-8 pm. There is also an English Corner at Manchester Museum on the first Tuesday of every month from 1-2.30pm.
