Thursday lates 5 - 8pm

This Late is curated by The Feminist Takeover team (made up of protagonists from No More Page 3, For Book's Sake, Mighty Heart Theatre and Stirred Poetry), and brings together some of the North's best emerging women creatives. These women will challenge the male-dominated artistic canon, respond to the gallery's artworks and inspire attendees. This is an emergency. Join us in smashing patriarchy with art!

By giving self-identified women a voice in the context of Manchester Art Gallery we encourage discussion and explore the issues around the representation of women within the gallery, the art world and the wider society. From suffragettes smashing windows in the galleries to a breathtaking exhibition of female surrealists, Manchester has a rich heritage of stereotype-smashing women.

The evening will begin in the atrium at 5pm where you will welcomed with an introduction and given a map and program of events. A program of new art, writing, performance and creative activities will unfold throughout the evening.

This event launches Wonder Women's month of events for International Women's Day 2015. http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200041/equality_and_diversity/6708/international_womens_day_2015 http://wonderwomenmcr.blogspot.co.uk/

Alexandra Arts' Takeover of the Late for International Women's Day explores the Suffragettes movement in terms of a fashion activism and empowerment through the Suffragette colours: green purple and white.

Inspired by our Suffragette uniform and the history of Suffragettes in Manchester, this event will inspire and empower women in the city of Manchester today.

During the evening you'll have the chance to make your own fashion piece and dress up - taking inspiration from the Suffragette colours, green, purple and white and also from the galleries collections. You can also catch Gramophonica (Pankhurst Remix) performances by Naomi Kashiwagi, see new work by Sarah Hardacre and projections adapted from Alexandra Arts 'Pankhurst in the Park' series.
