Events

With our programme of events, from family workshops to talks and lectures, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Events for August 2015

We are in the final stages of moving to a new website and for the remainder of August our event information here will be less than we would normally include. Please check our Facebook and Twitter channels for more up to date information. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused, but we think the new site will make up for it!

Highlights tours

Date: Every Saturday, Sunday and Thursday

Time: 2 - 3pm

Cost/booking info: Free, no need to book

Detail: Join a guided tour of the gallery and discover the stories behind the art works and the building. Learn about the history of the gallery and find out more about art. Each guide has their own style and choice of art works, so no two tours are the same.

Summer workshops for families

Join us this summer for hands-on activities that explore pattern through texture, colour and sound in creative workshops that use your senses; come and find out what a pattern sounds like, or how you draw a pattern through touch.

Each week we will be inviting an artist to takeover the workshops, adding their own unique spin on the theme of pattern. We are taking inspiration from our award-winning Baby art club, Mini art club, Open doors and the interactive Clore Art Studio to develop a holiday programme suitable for families with children aged 0-11.

Art. Creativity. Play.

Tues 4 – Fri 7 August

This week, artist Jessica Wild explores 'the sounds of pattern' in the Clore Art Studio, using music-tech equipment and cool materials to map families' responses in collaborative ways.

Inspired by the sensory materials and techniques she uses in our popular monthly art club, the space has been adapted to allow children of ages 0-11 and their families to get messy, be creative and explore our art together.

This summer is your chance to get your head around contemporary art, brush up on a little bit of art history and get thinking more creatively than ever before. Whether you want to take your next step towards a creative career, want to keep your artistic head even though you study other subjects, or just want to do something totally different this summer, this week is for you.

Young creatives Carly Bainbridge and Hayley Moses Walsh are working with the Gallery team to take you on a journey through art past, present and future. You'll visit artist hotspots within the city as well as finding out what goes on 'behind the scenes' at Manchester Art Gallery. Through a series of activities, group discussions and short talks you'll explore interpretation, artist techniques and gallery processes. More details coming soon.

Like us on Facebook or keep an eye on Twitter for details as they're released.
