Community Programmes

English Corner session March 2014Wellbeing Philosophy CafeIn Translation

Our community programmes help local people enjoy the gallery’s world class art collection and explore their own creativity.

We work with a diverse range of community groups on a varied programme of activities, each one developed to suit the participants. Some of the artworks made by the community groups and the artists they work with are on display at the gallery (see the link on the left for work on display).

We have developed projects and programmes for all kinds of groups and participants including, older people, adults learning English, young people and looked after children, adult groups and LGBT groups. We also work with children’s centres on activities for families, and are working with partners in the mental health sector on a programme of projects that promote wellbeing and the maintenance of good mental health.

We also offer tours for community groups that are especially designed for people who do not normally visit art galleries. They’re a great introduction to the gallery and equip participants to enjoy future gallery visits.

If you belong to a community group in Manchester and you’d like to find out more about community projects at Manchester Art Gallery, contact Ruth Edson or Helena Lee on:

Come and get involved with an arts project for Refugee Week.  Artists Emily and Anna from POD collective will be running a workshop in the gallery on Wednesday 21 May from 10-12.30.  Emily and Anna are taking photos of objects that tell a story and then asking people to record a memory linked to the object through 'white work' embroidery.  The embroideries and photos will be displayed at The People's History Museum for Refugee Week in June continuing to Setember 2014.  Anna and Emily have worked with many refugee groups and would like to open this session up to all people.  For more information, please contact Ruth Edson on 0151 2358877 or email
