There are a wide variety of opportunities across Manchester Art Gallery, Gallery of Costume and collections care sites. Your own interests, availability and abilities are a good starting place for choosing a suitable volunteer opportunity.
Volunteering is open to anyone living or studying in Greater Manchester. The roles available fall into three main areas: visitor engagement; office based; and gallery interpretation.
Our volunteers help us meet and greet visitors, deliver art workshops, offer tours, develop exhibitions, look after our collection and fundraise.

If you would like to be kept updated about volunteer opportunities send your contact details and a sentence about why you would like to volunteer with us to: magvolunteers@manchester.gov.uk and we'll add you to our volunteer mailing list.
As soon as a volunteering opportunity becomes available we'll send it to you along with a form to fill out and return noting your interest. We will select potential volunteers based on the best match between the skills they have, the skills they want to develop and the opportunity.
We're sorry that you may not be selected, we have a very limited number of opportunities to ensure that we give our volunteers a good experience. Some projects only require one volunteer but we also run group projects to give more people the chance to get involved so keep an eye out for these.
Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to involve anyone outside the opportunities that are shared via the mailing list. You can find out about volunteer opportunities in other organisations locally through Volunteer Centre Manchester.
