canvas
A still life depicting a large bunch of Polyanthus flowers in maroon, cream and lilac. The striking feature of the image is its blackness and dark-quality, the background is in pitch darkness and this means that some detail is lost from the subject itself. The vase is also painted in a dark-colour (grey) making it highly inconspicuous. The flowers are painted in deep, rich colours however giving them some prominence over the background. The vase sits on a shiny table which is highly reflective, reflecting the flower heads in the surface of the table.
