Description

Scene depicting Salome with the decapitated head of John the Baptist. In the centre, Salome shown in three-quarter length holds the head of St John, partly covered by a brown cloth, on a silver charger. The executioner, in profile and naked to the waist, sheaths his sword in foreground to the right. Behind him an old woman looks down on the Baptist's head. A youth peers in at a barred window in the top left corner, towards which Salome turns her head.
