Chained Reactions takes you on audio-visual journeys exploring the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and the impact on our society today. The interactive links together audio, visual and text responses made by gallery visitors to the six objects that make up Manchester Art Gallery's Revealing Histories: Remembering Slavery Gallery Trail on display from March 07 to June 08. It also draws in photos from members of the public and a wide range of related images submitted via Flickr™ (flickr.com). Chained Reactions will evolve as people continue to add their own images, photographs and thoughts to the artwork, creating a new journey each time you visit.
Why not add your own comments and images to Chained Reactions by joining the Flickr Chained Reactions group?
Manchester City Galleries commissioned digital artist group the Believe Collective to create an interactive digital artwork based on new interpretations created by visitors taking part in our Revealing Histories: Remembering Slavery programme. The visitor responses include written and drawn labels, audio and video recordings, poetry, graphic design, textile artworks and visitors' suggestions for how to commemorate Manchester's role in the transatlantic slave trade.
This is the first time that Manchester City Galleries have commissioned a digital artwork for display on our website.
The digital artist team are made up of Ro Rai (Director and Creative Producer) , Dan Mackie (Technical Creative), Derek Richards (Musician and Multimedia Producer).
