A civilian memorial, the Tree of Remembrance is a stylised bronze tree sculpture with names of civilian victims of the Second World War inscribed around the trunk and on the leaves. It was erected in 2005.
The Tree of Remembrance replaced a real tree in Piccadilly Gardens in a project involving the Valuing Older People group for the 60th anniversary of VE day. The design was intended to provide a shelter and contemplative space for remembrance and reflection.
