Description

Full length evening/dinner dress in black silk velvet; sleeveless with boned bodice; full unlined skirt; decorative trim incorporating a mock opening to bodice and skirt with covered buttons and revealing a 'lining' of pleated matt black silk; narrow separate belt.
Woven label: 'Julian Rose, London'. Retailer's label for 'F J Taylor & Son Ltd, Bristol'.
Worn by donor for evening engagements in Bristol.
Julian Rose was a respected London designer in the 1950s, advertising variously in Vogue from 1950 to 1958, and invariably using Barbara Goalen as the preferred model.
