Description

Fine tweed jacket in black and cream with black velvet collar and three quarter length sleeves; single breasted fastening with 3 buttons; fitted to the waist. Contrasting black silk grosgrain skirt with button front and scalloped front hem. Both labelled 'Balenciaga, 10 Avenue Rue George V, Paris'. The Cristobal Balenciaga Foundation in Spain thought that both pieces were from the 1953 collection, but that the jacket would have been intended to be worn with a matching skirt.
A very widely advertised jacket: see FEMME, Printemps 1953, ALBUM DU FIGARO, Avril/Mai 1953, and JARDIN DE MODES Avril 1953 for images of this jacket with a matching tweed skirt.
