Linen, with blackwork embroidery in black silk. Cut in three main sections with shaped back and curved front edges; small gore at centre back, two gores at each side to give shaping below waist; small gores in material near one side seam; semi-circular collar extending across back only between shoulder seams; epaulette-like sleeve heads with sleeves inset underneath, sleeves cut in two sections, shaped for elbow, slit at wrist; sewn-on turn-back curved cuffs; fronts, collar and wings edged with narrow bobbin braid in black and white embroidered in pattern of narrow bands, as borders down inside sleeves, and over surface as diagonals alternating with floral sprays of rose, carnation and honeysuckle, band pattern of alternating formal leaves and rose; outline worked in chain stitch, fillings extremely varied patterns, in back, satin and braid stitch.
