Description

Day dress of corded shot silk figured in rose pink and grey - blue (blue warp and pink weft).

The bodice is lined in white cotton and is boned at centre front below bust. Fastens at centre back with 16 metal hooks and 14 worked eyelet holes and 2 loops. The bodice also features pleating over bust, ruching at pointed waist and 2 rows of piping at waist front. The sleeves feature 2 puffed panels above the elbow, sleeve widening at cuff [sleeves probably altered c. 1854]. The skirt is cut in 6 sections and is lined with white gauze, a ribbon bow attached at the back and woollen braid at hem. There is blue and pink silk trimming on bodice, top of sleeve and cuffs.
