Close Up

The final fashionable outline or silhouette is created by a layering of many different garments, and a wealth of decorative features; so that the whole is the culmination of many parts. Much of the intimate small-scale detailing remains largely concealed from sight, except for the very near viewer. This section aims to move in "close-up" to highlight decorative and functional detailing, and to act as an electronic microscope.

Clothes can be strikingly innovative in many of their details: textile designs in novel print or weave; unusual applied trimmings; essential yet diverse types of fastening; and a huge variety of technically different stitches and seams. All these decorative finishes and techniques can be so much better appreciated and understood on a really close examination, revealing their individual roles in the creation of the final full-scale garment.
