Getting Under the Skin

Moving from historical to contemporary artworks, students explore mark-making, surface pattern and gesture to discover how artists have represented people, identity, body and skin, using the formal elements. Students unpeel the artistic layers to reveal the techniques that create them. They investigate and experiment with drawing, painting, photography and sculpture. Eventually, they use printing techniques to create personal responses that can be extended back in school.
