Into Africa (acrylic on board)Inspired by… Roger Fry's Giraffe Cabinet, Omega workshop"The cabinet reawakened memories of childhood. My aunt had a coal-store on the side of her house. Curious to know what was behind the closed door, I was told that was where she kept the giraffe. Then she moved house and I was never to see behind the door.
I have tried to bring the coal-store and the cabinet together. As it is probably only conservators that are able to see inside the cabinet I imagined the giraffe as it leaps away from its constraints in veneer form onto the savanna that is maybe inside…
By visiting galleries, I think I have become more aware of my surroundings, I see things not seen before."
