In light of men (acrylic on paper)
Inspired by… Mervyn Peake's The Glass Blower, 1944
“Initially my eye was drawn to the dramatic lights and tonal effects of the glassblower. I think the exaggerated, inviting, yet shadowed pose of the main figure gives the painting a sense of perspective and space.
I’ve combined these aspects to create a questioning piece incorporating degrees of human exposure and vulnerability. I used the figure and it’s relationship to the light in a physical and metaphorical sense.
I got brave again and rediscovered my gift after 11 years. Adult education classes motivated me to use my skills.”
