In this lecture, Professor Elza Adamowicz will explore issues relating to subjectivity, identity and gender in the works of surrealist artists, including Claude Cahun, Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington. It will show how they rejected some of the existing views of femininity and offered alternatives through performance art, object-making and combining materials in new and unusual ways.
